 The Bristol Motor
Speedway, originally
know as Bristol
International Speedway,
has been drawing
visitors to its iconic
NASCAR short track since
1960. Today, Bristol
Motor Speedway seats
approximately 160,000
people in an
all-concrete oval
facility that is so
steep and compact that
its races
have been
likened to “flying
fighter jets in a
gymnasium.” The track is
highly banked and, with
24-30 degree turns and
16 degree straights, it
is the steepest NASCAR
track. All that, and its
only a half a
mile long, making for
some of the most
memorable and exciting
races in the world. At
the start of the race,
the 40+ cars stretch back
halfway around the track
making for a very
congested race with lots
of “swapping paint”
action.

The race is a spectacle
on its own, boasting the
“World’s Fastest Half
Mile,” but the crowd
adds to the charged

August 2008, a sold-out
crowd achieved a
Guinness World Record by
completing the largest
crowd-wave in history.
