Independence Day Parades in the High Country

Independence Day Parades on Saturday, July 3rd

Banner Elk....
The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an Independence Day Parade at 11:00 a.m. The parade will begin near the Chamber of Commerce on Main Street, and will last about 30 to 40 minutes, ending at Tate-Evans Town Park. Small flags will be distributed to children during the parade. For more info, call 828-898-8195.

Banner Elk Park Festivities, July 3
Following the parade, a plastic duck race will begin at 12:30 p.m. with prizes valued at more than $3,000. Sack races and three-legged races will also take place for kids and adults.

Pizza, hotdogs, barbeque and drinks will also be available, and the town’s 18th annual book sale will have thousands of books for adults and children starting at 50 cents. For more info, call 727-418-6601.

There will also be the 18th Annual Kiwanis Used Book Sale going on in the park: Book prices will range from 50 cents for a paper back to $1.00 for most hard cover boks. Toward the end of the sale, books will be free - but shopping bags will be sold for $1.00 to take them away. Proceds from the event will go towards the club's school book programs throughout Avery County. These programs include the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program in all of the elementary schools, and book purchase requests made in conjunction with the club's Woolly Worm grant program.

Blowing Rock....
Blowing Rock’s Independence Day Parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will run the length of Main Street. For more info, call Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation at 828-295-5222.

Boone....
This year’s theme will be “Celebrating 75 Years of the Blue Ridge Parkway.” The parade route will run the length of King Street between the Dan’l Boone Inn and Murphy’s beginning at 3:30 p.m. For more info, call 828-264-4532.

Elk Park....
Elk Park will hold its parade at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish to be in the parade should plan to be in line by 10:30 a.m. For more info, call 828-733-9573.

Todd....
Todd’s Liberty Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. For more info, call 336-877-5016.
