Tweetsie Railroad

For an old-fashioned day
in the Blue Ridge
Mountains, Tweetsie
Railroad is celebrating
50 years of
unforgettable fun!
Tweetsie Railroad is a
unique High Country
attraction that
incorporates historic
steam locomotive Number
12, cowboys, Indians,
engineers, animals, and
loads of rides and live
entertainment. Listed on
the National Register of
Historic Places,
Tweetsie locomotive was
built in 1917 and was
and continues to be the
inspiration for the Tweetsie
Railroad theme park.
Opened in 1957 as North
Carolina's first theme
park, Tweetsie Railroad
is bursting with
excitement the whole
family can enjoy.
Situated on a mountain
ridge on Highway 321
between Boone and
Blowing Rock North
Carolina, Tweetsie
Railroad's main
attraction is the 30
minute, 3 mile loop ride
aboard Tweetsie
Locomotive #12.
Tweetsie was named for
its melodic "tweet" that
resounded through the
Blue Ridge Mountains
when it ran for the
Eastern Tennessee &
Western North Carolina
Railroad in the early
1900s. Tweetsie
continues to draw
visitors to its fun and
historic Wild West
themed ride. A perfect destination
for families, with
reasonable prices and
tasty food, Tweetsie
Railroad has four areas
of the theme park to
explore.
Main Street welcomes
visitors to Tweetsie
Railroad and includes
the ticket booth and
train station, where
eager visitors wait to
board Tweetsie. Main
Street also features a
general store, western
store, jail, toy shop
and funnel cakes.
Tweetsie Junction is the
second section of the
park, featuring the
Palace Saloon and
Pavilion Theatre where
children and adults
alike delight in live
entertainment. Listen to
Bluegrass music or watch
the Tweetsie Country
Cloggers and then head
over to Feed & Seed
Restaurant, Fudgeworks,
or Sparky's Barbeque.
After filling up on good
food, head up to Miners
Mountain. Miner's
Mountain is most
popularly accessed by
the Chairlift to Miner's
Mountain just past the
train depot in Main
Street, although
visitors can walk or
take a bus to Miner's
Mountain. Atop Miner's
Mountain, you can enjoy Deer Park, a
petting zoo with 90
species of wildlife,
Miner's Mountain
Theatre, Mouse Mine
Train, boat ride, small
jet ride, Tweetsie
Twister, and an amazing
observation deck
providing 360 degree
views of the mountain.
Lastly, the Country Fair
section of Tweetsie
Railroad
is just as is sounds and
features a Ferris
wheel, plane and
helicopter ride,
Tilt-A-Whirl, Junior
Carousel, Turnpike
Cruisers, Round Up,
arcade, Tornado ride,
Free Fall, and the
newest Tweetsie ride,
Den of Lost Thieves.
